This week sees the Queerchester's Arts Trail flood The Village with art. Just in time for Pride weekend, venues both inside and outside The Village are playing host to paintings, photography, graphic design, sculpture... in fact any medium of visual arts you can think of is covered! And this Thursday (21st August) sees Queerchester lead a walkabout from 6pm, taking in each stop on the Arts Trail tour to see the art and meet the artists.
Meeting at Taurus, the group will stop at fifteen minute intervals at Molly House, Bar Pop, Via, Polari, Vanilla, Eagle, Company and end at Bangkok Bar on Princess Street to see the final artists, performance art in affiliation with Queer We Are from the DEVI Collective (and others) and a screening of Haus of Phag's The Fey.
Eventually, Queerchester aims to raise funds to create a permanent space for art and creativity in The Village. As Manchester's official space for the Gay Community, they - like others - believe that it shouldn't be an area dominated and solely designated for drinking. Until that space happens however, Queerchester will be staging regular arts and culture events, filling The Village with art inside and out. "We want to give exposure to all the talent in our Queer community," say the organisers "and to highlight the need and desire for much more art and culture in the village.
"With your help to we will change the Gay Village - make it better for everybody. We believe in building bridges and creating change - do you? We are setting up a proper community initiative to make this all happen as soon as all the pride events are completed; if you want to get involved message us on our Queerchester page."
