From the Bon Iver-esque Untitled to the big hat tip to Jeff Buckley in Worn, Robbie is climbing into the footsteps of some great performers, but matching them with his beautiful lyrics and blissful voice. And with the additions of a diverse band of voices and instruments, Robbie is much more than just a voice with a guitar. From the Damien Rice style male/female duet Boy From The Fair, to the full band and strings of Heavy Heart, this album is a fully realised and beautiful collection of songs that could rival even the most accomplished of its peers.
Support came from Rachel Hillary, whose beautiful and poetic folk songs set the tone for the night. Against the backdrop of the 18th century church, where there was also a photography exhibition of corpses, Robbie sang to me as I reclined on a beanbag and to his mum, who was sat in the front pew. "Are there any Apple experts in tonight?" he asked midway through, "Because my mum's clearly having problems taking photos on her iPad." The night was casual, but I came away somewhat even more enamoured of his voice (and him, obvs) than I was before.
